For a friend's best friend

Every May, I get an e-mail from my friend Mary. She tells me to call my best friend and tell her that I love her. I call my best friend and tell her that I love her.

Several years ago, her best friend Jennifer died of Hodgkin’s disease, and Mary's description of Jennifer's fight, Jennifer's humor and determination, and ultimately, Jennifer's death, makes me cry. This year Mary is running a half-marathon in honor of her best friend, and she's raising money for cancer research to do it. She was telling me earlier today that every time she runs, she thinks of Jen. On Saturday, she ran SIX miles, which is the furthest she's ever run before. I remember three years ago, when I was training for my first half marathon, every week, I ran further than I had ever run before. It was an amazing experience.

Anyhow, if you have a dime or two rubbing together, you might want to throw it Mary's way. Mary's team in training page is here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/sfl/wdw10/mmarbacc9u

Thank you, sweetheart. I always say that love is supposed to be an action verb. Almost 8 years after I lost Jennifer, I am still looking for ways to make loving her an action verb. And right now, raising money so not one more person has to lose their best friend is the best way I know how. I love Jennifer still, and I love you for helping me honor her.
