Random things from the weekend

  1. Most of the weekend days were spent hanging out on the front porch. The dogs loved it. I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful this weekend was. Saturday, they supervised me while I put an IKEA bench together and then started installing a drip irrigation system in the new front flower bed. They also commented on my purchase and installation of a a trellis. lord_of_entropy happened to be canvassing in my neighborhood for MoveonPAC, and he came to enjoy the porch after he was done. Sunday afternoon, Jose and I hung out with a 12 pack of Shiner Bock. Our parents came by in the late afternoon to help us lounge away the rest of Sunday (and help with the 12 pack).

  2. Friday night was fun. Billy Idol ended up being a lot better than I thought he would be. And damn, he looks good for however old he is. The night eneded at Absinthe, after a stop at a local tattoo/piercing parlor. Two of my concert going companions were so moved by the music (and the Wild Turkey) that they felt an immediate need to get navel piercings. As I've been there and done that, I was there solely in a supporting role. BTW, seeing Billy Idol finish his set with Jump by Van Halen was awesome.

  3. The Wilco show on Saturday night was one of the best concert events I've ever been to. From the moment that they took the stage until the house lights came on, I was riveted. The whole set was tight, despite some major technical difficulties with amps and guitars. They covered a lot of material in the two hours that they played, covering all five albums. What I thought was amazing was that I saw them at ACL in September, and this show was completely different than that set. Contrast to Modest Mouse, who had a nearly identical set in February as their ACL set.

  4. On Sunday, I was inspired to buy a shit load of Uncle Tupelo. I spent most of the early afternoon loading stuff into my ipod.

  5. When it got too cold to stay outside(!), Jose and I caught me up on Battlestar Galactica. What an awesome series. I can't wait until July.

  6. My plumbing issue was simply a clogged line. The guys with the snake showed up this morning at around seven thirty, and my plumbing disaster only set me back $100. I thought it was going to be one of those several thousand dollar jobs.
