Taking it all off

I'm thinking about taking a burlesque class. The Lady Grace Academy makes burlesque classes finally available to Houstonians, and I'd love to explore this a bit. It looks like they're in the middle of the current four class session, but I hope to start the Burlesque Basics course when it starts up again.

Right now, this is just for my own amusement and fun (and probably Graham's), but who knows? It's certainly my sort of thing. Maybe I'll soon be asking ya'll to help me come up with my burlesque name.

I just got off the phone with my mom, who is on the way to the ranch. She asked me about the Diverseworks gala and what I'm wearing. I said, "well, you know, the theme is 'Debutantes Gone Wild'. And I have this wedding skirt I decorated with LED lights and plastic flowers for Burning Man a few years ago. It's sitting in the living room and seems to take up half the space. We had to move it so Crianza could get to her chair, because she didn't want to go through it. So I thought I'd throw one of my corsets on with that. And then do something outrageous with my hair."

My mother's only concern was that since I've been sick (and am still not feeling 100%) that I cover my shoulders. I pointed out that since the wedding skirt is so full, I can wear leggings underneath to stay warm. We both sort of worried about my ability to get in and out of a car in that thing, much less drive it. It's ridiculously poofy.

I think the corset will be purple, though I have to decide which purple corset to wear. I don't know if I'll do a colorful wig or my hair falls. It will probably depend on what the timing looks like for getting ready.

I suspect that if I ever had the chance to stand on a podium after having won something for my country, the commentators would have a hell of a lot more than a tiara to gasp about.
