This and that

Driving home last night, I saw four dogs all by themselves on the Mecom Fountain circle. I don't know how they got there, but it was rush hour, and they looked like they wanted to cross the very busy street. I called 311 to get a hold of animal control, but they were already closed. Instead, I talked to the non-emergency police dispatcher, and she said she'd send a patrol car to check out the dogs. I don't know what happened, but I'm still feeling guilty that I didn't stop and rescue them myself.

I'm home sick today. I suspect that over-indulgence in Clemintines in the previous two days is the source of my ailment. Ugh. I also suspect that those will not be my last Clemintines.

Graham and I saw The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus over the weekend. I thought it was lovely, and I again felt horrible about the loss of Heath Ledger. His performance was wonderful. And the three actors who were brought in to replace him did a fine job. I do think, though, that the story suffered some with his death. The first two thirds of the movie were utterly captivating and (for a Terry Gilliam movie) made sense. In the last third, though, the story seemed to fall apart, and I think that the absence of Heath Ledger made for that. I don't really blame anyone, as I think that they did an awesome job given what they were left with. And it was a beautiful film. I'd heard that this was the first movie Gilliam had storyboarded since the The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen.

I don't really know what to say about the Senate race in Massachusetts. Part of me is terribly annoyed that the Democrats couldn't get organized enough to win that "safe" seat. But more of me is ridiculously annoyed that Democrats seem to be under the impression that this is the end of the fucking world. That having a nine member majority in the Senate isn't already a huge, huge lead. And they better fucking get their heads out of their collective asses, stop running the country out of a position of fear, and show the country that they know what the fuck they're doing. Or else they deserve to lose everything in the fall.

My puppies are terribly cute.
