I’m ‘stina. I started this journal to keep up with friends that sort have been migrating around the internet since 1997. We all started at the official Buffy board--back when no one watched Buffy--and we’ve floated to a couple of sites and ended up here. I've picked up quite a number of new readers since I started this thing, so everyone sorta comes from everywhere.
Things that help make sense of my ramblings:
I’m an 9th generation Texan, and I’m currently living in Houston, Texas. I have lived in other places: Berkeley, California from 2000 to 2002, Oxford, England from 1994 to 1995, and Claremont, California from 1991 to 1994.
I’m fairly liberal, very liberal for Texas.
I’m a lawyer and I used to be in the billable hours gig until an agency of the state of Texas came along and gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse (read: no timesheets). I post at Lawtalkers.com, and if you've found this site from there, hi! It's not too hard to find me, any "lawtalkers" google search will land you here.
I’m also a health care geek. Have all but the thesis part done in a Masters of Public Health. Most of my academic and all of my professional life has been dedicated to health care of some sort or another.
I have adorable dogs with dreadlocks down to the floor. Relampago was the older one; he was born on October 13, 1992 and died on August 20, 2008. Crianza was born on July 27, 2003 and died suddenly and sadly of lymphoma on January 5, 2011. Celosa is the baby; she was born on December 27, 2008. They are puli, and this post can answer general questions about the breed in general and Relampago in particular.
My family members make appearances in my livejournal entries. You generally can tell via context if I’m talking about Liv, my hipster youngest sister that lives in California, or Claudia, my trendy middle sister who lives here in Houston with her black Labrador retriever, Holden. I only have one brother, Jose, who lives here in Houston, is an architect and is 19 months younger than me. My parents are still together, have been since the late 60s. They moved into a one-bedroom loft and currently reside with Zapata, their puli who was born in January 2002. My husband Graham moved in with me in January 2008.
I bought my house when I moved back to Houston, and I always have grand plans for it that get put into boring livejournal posts.
My family has a ranch in central Texas, and I’ll post from time to time about our adventures there.
I've been involved in the art car scene here in Houston since 2002 on various committees for the parade. For the four years, I've co-chaired the VIPit party during the parade. Sick of seeing other people's cars and not joning in on the fun, my friends and I built an art car that was finished about two minutes before the 2007 parade started. The Vroom Vroom Room is a bitchy tempermental pain in the ass that's literally taken my blood (and a fingernail), but I adore her dearly. She went to Burning Man with the rest of us Damned Fucking Texans in 2007, the same year that I met Graham there. We were back in 2008.
Graham and I met at Burning Man in 2007. He moved to Texas to live with me in January of 2008. We got engaged in Jamaica in April of 2011, and we're got married at the ranch in April of 2012.
I read a lot, I watch a lot of movies. I don’t actually watch that much TV, but I do get hooked on the few shows that I do watch. I’m into the arts scene here in Houston on the boards of two organizations and helping out a lot for two others. I also give a lot of my time and money to Planned Parenthood.
I'm pretty tolerant of a lot, so it doesn't really matter that you have different views than me. I am also opinionated as hell so I may, er, challenge stuff.
NC-17? Not really, though at any given moment I could start talking about vibrators or blow jobs, so you've been warned.
That’s it, I think. I rant, I rave, I ramble. Read a few entries and you'll get the idea.
