Where the Wild Things Are

I'm deeply, deeply skeptical. This is a beloved childhood favorite that I intend to read repeatedly to my own children one day, and I don't want it fucked around with.

I will say, though, that I approve of using the Arcade Fire in the trailer. And, for a live-action piece, it does seem to have a healthy level of mystical realism. AND, they could have done much worse than Spike Jonze. (Though they could have gone with Guillermo del Toro, though I suppose he was too busy with the Hobbit, and it looks like the author of the book approached Jonze directly.) AND, Dave Eggers co-wrote the screenplay with Jonze. AND, the Jim Henson Company made the puppets/costumes. Still, if I get any wind whatsoever that this sucks in even the minorest of ways, I may very well have to pretend that this doesn't exist.

It does look pretty cool. Possibly mind-blowingly good.

Oh my. I have already read this to Leo over a dozen times. I was giggling just like he does by the end of that trailer.

The wild things look accurate to the book, if a little Teletubbie-ish. I'll likely see it. I share your apprehension on it being messed up. But we shall see, I suppose.
